Everyone loves to eat – and learning how to prepare spectacular dishes or just down home good-eating recipes is almost a national pastime. Next month WaterColor Inn & Resort is hosting SouthernFare Culinary weekend September 16-18 and they're bringing in two southern culinary greats to teach guests the how-to's of preparing their favorite recipes. James Beard Award winner Martha Foose and the Gulf Coast's own, Lucy Buffett headline WaterColor Inn & Resort's culinary weekend. Martha is a Mississippi native who has studied in France and worked as Food Editor for Pillsbury Classic Cookbooks and as a consultant for Food Professionals Network. Martha is a 2009 James Beard Award winner for American Cooking and won the Southern Independent Booksellers Award for her debut book, Screen Doors and Sweet Tea. Martha has been touring the country promoting her new cookbook, A Southerly Course.
Mobile native Lucy Buffett is a renowned cook, author and owner of Lulu's restaurant in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She coined the phrase "One Love One Ocean" to unite the Gulf Coast following the tragic BP oil spill. Lucy's first cookbook, Crazy Sista Cooking is in its second printing. Lucy is singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett's little sister and her cookbook contains favorite family recipes and stories about growing up in the Buffett household. She was selected as the 2010 Boardman Entrepreneur of the Year by the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi,
WaterColor invites guests to dine, learn and celebrate southern fare with both Martha Foose and Lucy Buffett through the weekend. SouthernFare begins with a VIP dinner at WaterColor's award winning restaurant Fish Out of Water Friday evening where guests will dine with Martha and Lucy. The menu will feature specialties from Martha's and Lucy's cookbooks, prepared by Fish Out of Water's chefs. Saturday guests are invited to participate in chef demonstrations and tastings with Lucy and Martha that will include individual cooking sessions and book signings with each chef, as well as one joint seminar. Both Chefs' cookbooks will be available for purchase during the weekend.
Both Martha Foose and Lucy Buffett are amazing southern chefs and authors, with humorous and memorable stories behind each flavorful bite! Anyone is welcome to purchase separate tickets for the VIP dinner at Fish Out of Water and for the cooking demonstrations. The Friday night VIP dinner with both Martha Foose and Lucy Buffett is $85.00 (tax and gratuity not included). Individual cooking demonstrations are $35 while the joint demonstration is $40.
